Synopsis

The play revolves around a retired married couple -- a former diplomat and his wife -- and their son, Simon. Simon is embroiled in a scandal and to preserve his political career he must publicly denounce his father, the retired diplomat, who reflects on his life in a backyard with a plum tree.

Location notes:

A Pair of Claws is set in the rear garden of Sylvia and Presley's house. The town (or state) is never identified. The film adaptation, Departure, sets the narrative in Hobart and coordinates have therefore been given for this location.
